I was sitting in the studio here at US 1035 a couple days ago, when I noticed one of our request lines ringing. It was the end of day and truthfully I didn’t want answer another phone call. For some reason this little voice inside my head said, “you should pick up that line.”
That’s when I met Jennifer Scott, the wife of deputy David Scott. Jennifer said, “I heard you talking about the men and women of the military and I wanted to see if you could help me with something?” I said I’d do what I could. That’s when Jennifer got emotional and started telling me about her husband David, who’s an ex U.S. Army Specialist.
She told me that David had just been diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia and was in Moffitt Cancer Center under going chemotherapy.
David found out he was sick just one month before his 42nd Birthday. Jennifer went on to talk about their 4 kids and how much David loved being a dad, and how great he is at it.
Cancer has touched my life many times over the years, from my mom, dad, my wife’s mom and dad, and my wife’s little cousin Lanie who had leukemia. I told Jennifer about Lanie and how she’s now 9 years cancer free.
One thing I know about someone you love being sick is this, it’s all you think about, day in and day out. You start worrying about anything and everything, then when you throw 4 young kids into the mix, it’s something no one should ever have to go through.
One of the biggest strains on the families are the financial demands. Truth is truth, and treatment isn’t cheap. This is something we as the Scotty Show family can help with.

Dave, a 16-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office was admitted to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa on Thursday for three weeks of treatment. His wife, Jennifer Scott and his mother-in-law are caring for his children. His kids are Trevor, Brianna, Madison and Brooklyn, who are between the ages of 5 and 17, in Sarasota.
In the past few days I’ve been on the phone with Jennifer, I’m getting to know her and Dave. My heart has already become invested in doing whatever I can to help the Scott family.
