There's a new centerpiece coming to the University of Tampa; a musical sculpture will be the largest in the world. and the first of its kind in the United States! "Ars Sonora" will stand 105 feet tall in the center of UT's campus. "Ars Sonora" means "musical instrument," and that's exactly what this sculpture will be.
There will be a series of bells connected to a keyboard, and each key corresponds to a bell. When the keyboard is played. the song will be heard via the bells!
Engineers at UT teamed up with a 7th-generation bell-maker in France...the same company who made the replacement for the Liberty Bell, which famously cracked upon its first ringing in 1752.
Ars Sonora will feature 63 bells, and is expected to open this summer, in time for students to arrive for the fall semester.
