If you've never used a ride share app, it works like this: You use an app on your phone to contact a driver who picks you up in his or her car, and takes you where you need to go, and you pay through the app, so you don't even have to have cash. It's genius, it's usually cheaper than a traditional taxi, and it's a great solution for anyone who's ever had one too many adult beverages and can't drive home.
Introducing the Amish Uber. There's an Amish man in Michigan named Timothy who has started using his horse-drawn buggy to make some extra money. Timothy and his horse will pick you up and take you wherever you need to go in the town of Colon, Michigan.
The only thing is, because the Amish don't use cell phones, you have to find Timothy and flag him down, rather than calling him thru an app.
I think this is fantastic! What a great way to make money while giving people an experience they won't soon forget!
Sarasota has a pretty large Amish population, especially in the winter months. Who wants to suggest that someone on the Suncoast start up an Amish Uber? I'd love to roll up to a dinner date in a buggy!
