A race where I get to drink beer and eat donuts? I'm in!

Boerne Half K

I am not a runner. I honestly hate running with a passion. My list of Things I Hate Most are as follows:

  • Terrorism
  • Running
  • Mayonnaise

Actually, I may hate running more than terrorism...could go either way depending on the day. I *can* run. I can run pretty fast, actually. I just hate it with the white-hot heat of a thousand suns. Running is terrible and if you enjoy it we're not friends. ;)

ANYWAY. There's an event this Saturday (Cinco de Mayo!) in Texas that's a .5K. No, I didn't accidentally put the decimal in the wrong place. It's a half-kilometer race.

The Boerne 0.5 Race is a .5K race between two beer pubs. Runners get beer at the starting line (!) and  at the finish line (!!) -- and will also be provided with donuts, coffee, a participation trophy, and a "pretentious oval Euro-style 0.5k sticker that you can attach to the rear window of your car to show everyone what a cool hipster you are."

Tickets for the event are already sold out, with all the money raised going to the charity group Blessings in a Backpack, which helps feed needy students. It’s a great example of lazy people getting together for a good cause.

Dear Tampa Bay, can we PLEASE put on a similar event here?? FYI, a .5K is equivalent to about 500 yards. Easy!
