Pork fat is GOOD FOR YOU!?!

Full disclosure: I like to eat healthy. As in, I don't pinch my nose and choke down Brussels sprouts; I actually ENJOY them. I like the taste of a lot of healthy foods, and I definitely like the way I feel when I'm putting good stuff in my body. When I was in my 20s, I lived on a diet of Cheese Bits, soda, and ice cream, and I always felt tired and crappy. Now I eat well, and I feel good almost all the time.

That being said, there are a few foods that are generally regarded as being "healthy" that I just can't make myself eat. Kale, I'm talking to you. Get back to being the garnish on the Pizza Hut all-you-can-eat buffet where you belong. You are gross and I don't want you on my plate, ruining my perfectly good meal.

The fine folks over at the BBC put together a list of the 100 foods that are most healthy for you, based on each food's nutritional value. I expected the list to consist of mostly green vegetables, and while there's certainly a lot of vegetation on there, a few items really stood out and kinda surprised me.

For example, pork fat came in at #8.

REALLY?! WOW!

According to the BBC, the top 10 healthiest foods are:

Almonds, cherimoya fruit (I've never heard of that), ocean perch, flatfish (don't know what that is either), chia seeds (like from a Chia Pet?),  pumpkin seeds (yum!), Swiss chard, pork fat (!!!),  beet greens, and snapper.

So for those of you following along at home, PORK FAT beat out berries, carrots, grilled chicken...basically every other food. SO BRING ON THE BACON! I feel significantly less guilty about my indulgent Sunday morning brunch-fests now!
