Tallahassee, FL - A Florida State University student has been charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder following a campus shooting that left two dead and several injured.
Phoenix Ikner, 20, was discharged from a Tallahassee hospital on Monday after undergoing multiple surgeries for injuries sustained during the April 17th shooting.
He was subsequently booked into the Leon County Detention Facility and later transferred to the Wakulla County Detention Facility, a standard procedure due to his relation to a Leon County Sheriff's Office deputy.
Ikner faces two counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Authorities allege that he opened fire near the university's student union, killing Robert Morales, 57, a campus dining coordinator, and Tiru Chabba, 45, a regional vice president for Aramark.
Six others were injured during the attack.
Investigators believe Ikner used a former service weapon belonging to his stepmother, an 18-year veteran of the Leon County Sheriff's Office, during the shooting.
He was shot in the jaw by responding officers after failing to comply with commands, leading to his hospitalization.
The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
Ikner is currently being held without bond as he awaits his first court appearance.
