Governor Ron DeSantis talking tax relief for Florida residents today in Orlando.

But he favors exempting state property taxes for homeowners rather than a sales tax reduction as propsed by lawmakers.

DeSantis says he agrees with the state house proposal of a $5-billion reduction in taxes for Floridians and promised that the tax breaks will not affect police or schools. He says the aim is to offload the tax burden to non-Floridians.

"We would end up with about $1000 in property tax relief for homesteaded residents," according to DeSantis.

DeSantis says homeowners should only have to pay property tax once, not every year.
