Fort Lauderdale, FL - A 35-year-old Fort Lauderdale resident is facing multiple charges after allegedly attacking a 72-year-old man and his dog near Pompano Beach's oceanfront.
According to the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO), the incident occurred shortly before 7:50 p.m. on Sunday in the vicinity of 50 N. Pompano Beach Blvd.
Authorities report that Anthony Tramaine Harris approached the elderly man, inquiring about his name.
When the victim declined to provide it, Harris allegedly grabbed him, threw him to the ground, and punched him in the back of the head three times, resulting in multiple abrasions.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators purportedly shows Harris seizing the man's small dog by its leash and hurling it into a bush, actions that could have caused injury to the animal.
Upon arrival, deputies attempted to apprehend Harris, who allegedly resisted arrest.
BSO jail records indicate that Harris has been charged with battery on a person aged 65 or older, animal cruelty, and resisting arrest.
He was assigned an $11,000 bond but remains in custody due to a parole violation stemming from a previous out-of-state burglary conviction.
