The Tampa Bay Rays (77-53) defeated the Baltimore Orioles (63-68) 3-1on Sunday afternoon at Camden Yards in Baltimore. With the win the Rays salvaged the series finale and avoided being swept in the three-game series against their divisional rival.
Nick Martinez (13-4, 2.93) was tremendous, allowing just one hit while pitching six innings of shutout baseball. Bryan Baker allowed the only run the Rays gave up - a solo homer to Colton Cowser in the ninth - but closed down the game in the ninth inning to earn his 37th save of the season. The Rays got all the offense they would need in the sixth inning, scoring three runs thanks to RBI singles from Junior Caminero and Chandler Simpson.
The Rays now travel to Detroit and will face the Tigers in a three-game series beginning on Monday night. Drew Rasmussen (13-5, 3.01) is scheduled to start for the Rays and face Framber Valdez (8-8, 4.35) for the Tigers.
