A rare and mysterious black moth has appeared in the Southeastern U.S. just in time for the spooky season.
Wildlife officials say they have spotted the Black Witch Moth, aka the Butterfly of Death, fluttering around Georgia.
It is the largest moth in the United States with a wingspan of up to 9.5 inches which is larger than a dollar bill.
Experts say the moth has long, pointy wings and is often mistaken for a bat.
Wildlife officials say although the moth looks creepy, it's harmless to humans.
Seeing a Black Witch Moth carries significance in different cultures, ranging from good fortune to death.
On a happier note, in the Bahamas the insect is known as the “money moth,” and spotting one means you may win the lottery.
