Florida-based fast-food chain Pollo Tropical just closed their three remaining stores in Jacksonville.

According to The Street, the beloved chicken-focused chain hung a message inside the windows of closing locations on Saturday (February 22) that read:

"We appreciate our loyal guests. It has been a pleasure to serve you over the years. This location is permanently closed. We thank you for your understanding."

Locations that closed last week include:

  • 4863 Gate Parkway at the Markets at Town Center
  • 730 Skymarks Drive in River City Marketplace
  • 10989 San Jose Blvd. in Mandarin

A Pollo Tropical spokesperson told The Street that the company chose to close the restaurants to ensure "growth potential."

"Through the normal course of business, we continually evaluate our portfolio to ensure our restaurants have the resources to achieve their growth potential. After careful consideration, Pollo Tropical made the decision to close our three Jacksonville restaurants and focus on higher growth markets in Florida."

The company, purchased by Authentic Restaurant Brands in 2023, was founded in 1988 and operates 125 locations throughout Florida. International locations include Puerto Rico, Central America, South America and the Bahamas. The recent closures all but eliminate the chain's presence in Northeast Florida, per Parade.
