FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) has re-drawn flood maps for the state of Florida. If you live in a coastal or low-lying area, this could effect what you pay for insurance. It's also possible that a property that didn't used to be in a flood zone can now be categorized differently, meaning you may be required to purchase flood insurance even though you hadn't required it previously.
The new map takes several factors into consideration, including how homes in certain neighborhoods are built. It seems like most of the changes in the greater Tampa Bay area were made in Pinellas County, but it's a good idea to check your neighborhood regardless of your county.
HERE is a link to the map where you can search for a specific address.
Something to note, most homeowners insurance does NOT cover floods. If you live in an area where flooding is a concern, you'll need a separate policy in order to be covered for flood damage. Depending on where you live, it isn't optional. Yay, Florida!
