TAMPA -- The president of the University of South Florida dropped an unexpected announcement Monday morning: his resignation.
Steven Currall, 62, took the job just two years ago in July of 2019. He said the "intensity of the past two years", presumably including the pandemic, "has put a strain on my health and my family." Currall says he plans to spend more time with his wife Cheyenne and his 91-year-old father.
USF board of trustees chair Will Weatherford, a former state lawmaker, said USF Provost and Executive Vice President Ralph Wilcox will serve as acting president, until the board can meet to vote on an interim president and begin the search process for a new chief executive.
