The search is on for a Purple Heart after a home health aide is accused of stealing it from the veteran for whom she was working.

Port St. Lucie Police say they are also looking for Vanessa Smith, who they accuse of stealing property from three other victims that were supposed to be receiving her services.

Authorities were tipped off when the wife of the veteran received a credit card bill from JCPenney for charges that weren't hers.

Officials say Smith tried to sell the medal to a pawn shop, but they weren't buying.

Cops hope to recover the Purple Heart so they can return it to the veteran's family, since he died after it was stolen.
