TAMPA --An eight vehicle crash shut down westbound traffic on the Courtney Campbell Causeway for several hours midday Wednesday.
Clearwater police say a chain reaction collision began around 10:20 when a tractor-trailer driver couldn't brake in time for stopped traffic. One person went to St. Joseph's Hospital while another went to Mease Countryside in Clearwater. Neither injury was life-threatening.
Another crash in the eastbound lane at the same time affected three vehicles.
Around 1:45, concrete was being offloaded from the truck to make it easier to remove from traffic. Police were allowing one westbound lane to roll through to clear out backup, but traffic was still being blocked at Rocky Point Drive.
14 people declined medical treatment.
