Florida is releasing genetically modified mosquitoes

If you had mutant mosquitoes on your June apocalypse bingo card--give yourself a stamp!

The EPA has approved the release of genetically modified mosquitoes in the state of Florida. The project is an attempt to control the mosquito population without spraying chemicals into the air or water.

The genetically modified females are designed to die in the larval (egg) stage. Since it's only the females that bite/drink blood, this *should* cause the mosquito population to die out over time.

But it does sort of feel like a real-life Jurassic Park experiment... what could possibly go wrong?!
