New transit system coming to St Pete

President Trump tweeted yesterday about a plan to create a state-of-the art transit system to shuttle residents and visitors across St Pete. The project will link Downtown St Pete to some popular Pinellas County beaches, via a new rapid-transit bus service.

The buses will travel along First Avenues North and South, from the USF St Pete campus on the east end, and St Pete beaches on the west end, with a few stops along the way. The buses will arrive every 15-30 minutes depending on the time of day, and will have their own travel lanes, so ideally, this system should be quicker than traveling by car. And of course, you wouldn't have to worry about finding parking at the beach or downtown.

This plan has been in the works since 2018, though the president's announcement came as somewhat of a surprise yesterday (Thursday. The project will create an estimated 48,000 jobs in Pinellas.

What are your thoughts? Will you use this transit system? I personally think that as long as the buses are clean, it's something I'd definitely consider as a strong alternative to parking at or near the beach.
