Farmer discovers dinosaur bones in Canada

A new species of tyrannosaur has been discovered in Canada and the T-Rex now has a new family member. Fragments of a fossilized skull of a previously unknown species of dinosaur were found by John DeGroot, a farmer and palaeontology fan, in Alberta.

Researchers say this is the first new tyrannosaur found in Canada in 50 years and they believe this newly discovered dino - Thanatotheristes degrootorum - lived 79.5-million years ago. That’s about 2.5-million years before its close relative, the T-Rex. These dinosaurs could be between 26 and 30 feet long and weigh more than two tons as adults.

“This discovery is significant because it fills in a gap in our understanding of tyrannosaur evolution,” explains Francois Therrien of the Royal Tyrrell Museum.

AMAZING!!
