Doctors managed to save the patient's vision after his phone addiction left him blind in one eye because blood vessels in his retina had burst from excessive strain.
According to his doctor, Qiu Wangjian, with Songgang People's Hospital, it followed a night of heavy smartphone use.
Doctor Qiu said, “The patient stayed up all night playing on his mobile phone. The following morning, as soon as he woke up, he picked up his phone and started using it again. About five minutes later, the patient discovered he was unable to see out his left eye. He couldn’t see anything."
The condition is the result of the rupturing of superficial retinal vessels caused by physical exertion.
