I had been in Amarillo TX about 6 months when Selena was killed.
I’ll admit being from West Virginia I didn’t know much about her.
I just knew she was getting ready to put out a English album and was about to blow up.
I was doing 7-12 on KQIZ Z-93 in Amarillo, and when I got into work that night my boss handed me a song from Selena called “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.”
My boss said, “play this on the new music challenge.”
That was where we would put two new songs up against each other and the listeners then voted for their favorite. Selena won 100% for a week.
Kids and adults were calling up every night of those 7 days crying and voting for Selena.
That’s when I realized how much of a part of people’s lives she had become a part of. I’ve been a big fan ever sense!
I can’t wait for this Netflix show about her life!
