Petition to move Halloween

Do you wish Halloween wasn't in the middle of the week this year?

Lots of people want Halloween to be changed from October 31st to the last Saturday in October. Supporters claim it’s better for kids, parents and party goers. A petition started on Change.org to change the Halloween date to the last Saturday of October has more than 150,000 signatures.

And now Snickers has gotten on board! They’ve pledged to give away 1 million candy bars if the date is changed.

“Snickers is all in on celebrating Halloween to the fullest," said Josh Olken, brand director for Snickers. "More hours in the day. More families being able to enjoy it. A more satisfying celebration. So if the Federal Government makes this thing official, we’re offering up to one million free Snickers to America. No tricks, only treats … we’re serious!"

I completely understand that it would be easier for families with young kids if Halloween weren't on a week night, but is it really that big a deal? An hour after the sun has gone down, the trick-or-treating starts to wind down anyway. Plus, most people throw their parties on a weekend regardless of when the actual holiday falls. We all had Halloween on October 31st and we turned out ok! Leave Halloween alone! What's next, moving Christmas to a Saturday??
