Texas Groom Robs Bank Day Before Wedding To Pay For Ring And Venue: Cops

Heath Bumpous, 36

A Texas man was arrested the day before his wedding after he allegedly robbed a bank to pay for his wedding ring. Police say that Heath Bumpous walked into a Citizens State Bank and demanded money, telling the cashier he was armed.

Bumpous left the bank before the police arrived. They released surveillance video taken from the bank, hoping the public could help identify him. His fiancee saw the footage on Facebook and called him to convince him to surrender to the authorities.

Bumpous turned himself in to the police and admitted to robbing the bank. Authorities recovered most of the money and found a gun in his car.

"He basically stated he was getting married tomorrow, he didn't have enough money for the wedding ring he wanted to buy, and he needed to pay for the wedding venue," Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace said.

Bumpous was booked on charges of aggravated robbery. He was transferred to Trinity County Jail and spent his wedding night behind bars.

"No wedding took place that I know of," Wallace said, "It didn't happen in my jail."
