"Smart home" system HACKED!

A Milwaukee couple wasn't smiling after their security camera got a little too candid -- and started talking to them when it was hacked by a prankster.

Lamont and Samantha Westmoreland installed a full-on smart home system, linking their thermostat, doorbell camera and internal security system, and everything went smoothly -- until this month. Samantha says she first noticed a problem when she returned home from work and found that the house was a steamy 90 degrees.

She turned it down, thinking it was a minor glitch, but it soon began going up again -- and then a voice started cursing at her and playing vulgar music through the camera. The Westmorelands say the hack continued even after a password change and blame the company for poor security on their end -- and the company insists they chose "compromisable passwords."

First off, I'd definitely light up the security company for allowing such a huge breach. Secondly, HOW CREEPY IS THIS!??! Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer to be less connected. We have an alarm system, but there are no cameras, and no internet-connected thermostat, and I *definitely* don't have smart speakers in my home. The technology is fascinating, but I don't like "always-on" devices. Laugh if you want, but my house ain't gettin' hacked!
