This story terrorfied me! It's funny, I never had to think about snakes anywhere else I lived until Florida. I make it a habit to always look before I step out of any door at my place. I also make sure to take the broom and poke in the shrubs before doing any lawn work or walking my pug. This kid got nailed on his front porch in California, sucks!
