An 81-year-old woman in St Louis avoided the wrecking ball when she was approved to relocate her 122-year-old historic home to another part of town. The city of St Louis planned to demolish the home to make room for a new government complex, but gave the owner the option to move it.
A crew carefully loaded up the brick home and moved it seven tenths of a mile (??!) to its new location, where owner Charlesetta Taylor will now live. Taylor's family has owned the property since 1945 and didn't want to give it up. The city says that demolishing the home would have cost them roughly the same amount as moving it, so they struck a deal that allowed Ms Taylor to keep her home. WOW!
