People are spending big bucks for special coffee beans grown in Madagascar that are chewed on and spit out by bats. That’s right. Bat spit coffee. The bat spit supposedly gives the beans a smoother flavor -- and increases the value of the beans, with people paying nearly $110 per pound for the stuff.
The bats chew on the coffee cherry (the flowering part of the coffee plant) and spit out the seed, which is the "bean" that we roast and drink.
This reminds me of the coffee that's eaten and...um... passed by civets in Indonesia. People are paying huge amounts of money for something that was already eaten by something else.
So the question is, would you want to drink coffee made with beans that were eaten/spit out/pooped out by another animal? I would, because I'm curious to know it's as good as they say. I mean, there's good coffee, and then there's $110 a pound coffee. Plus, the coffee beans are roasted, and the heat would kill any bacteria. I'd wanna try it, but I wouldn't want to pay for it!
