I learned today though, that James doesn't actually drive the car.
You might be thinking, "Yes he does Sarah, he's in the driver's seat and I see him turn the steering wheel!" I THOUGHT THE SAME THING.
The vehicle is actually being TOWED behind a wrecker while the segment is filmed!
Now, I knew that the experience of shooting an episode of "Carpool Karaoke" was somewhat uncomfortable, because previous guests have said they have to shoot with the air conditioning off, because the sound of the air will interfere with the audio. So they drive around singing with the air off for a few minutes, then turn the air on to cool the car, and the cycle repeats. I've also heard that they'll play a song multiple times, so it's certainly not the "fly by the seat of your pants" thing that it seems on TV.
But I really had no idea that James wasn't doing the driving! I'm not completely surprised...I guess it is dangerous to drive around the streets of LA (some of the worst traffic in the US) while shooting a TV show. For safety reasons, it makes sense to have the vehicle pulled around down...but I feel like my life is a lie!
