What temperature do you set the thermostat in your home? For me, we set it at 75 when we're home/asleep, and bump it up to 78 when we're away. Our AC is older, so I don't like to turn it much hotter than that, because the unit really struggles to cool the house when I do.
That being said, I know it's important for all of us to think about our energy consumption, whether you just want to save money on your electric bill, or you care about the health of the planet.
But there's only so much most of us are willing to do!
There's a new report out from Energy Star, which is the EPA program that promotes energy efficiency (you've probably seen their labels on your appliances), and it has new recommendations for where you should be setting your thermostat . . .
1. 78 degrees when you're home.
2. 85 when you're not home.
3. 82 at night.
Well . . . a reporter from CBS/10News in Tampa tweeted out that report yesterday morning, and people immediately started losing their minds.
As one person said, "I see we've decided to give up on sleeping . . . or having pets that aren't native to the rain forest." Another said, quote, "82 when you're sleeping? Yeah, on the sun."
Y'all, if it's 89 outside, I'm gonna need it to be cooler than that INSIDE. I appreciate trying to conserve energy and save money, but that's a hard pass from me.
