Gov. DeSantis signs new texting and driving bill

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a law making texting and driving a primary offense. Texting and driving was already against the law, but as a secondary offense, meaning police couldn't pull you over and write a ticket if it was the only law you were breaking. Now, they can ticket you for just the texting and driving. If an officer catches you typing on a mobile device while operating a motor vehicle, you could be issued a citation, with the fine being $30 for a first offense, $60 for a second offense, plus court fees.

According to the video below, you can still use your GPS/maps feature, as well as use your mobile device at stop lights.

The new law will go into effect on July 1st.
