Just in time for the weekend, heightened levels of enterococci bacteria (fecal bacteria) was detected in the waters at three Sarasota beaches.
Authorities have posted "no-swim" advisories for Siesta Key Beach, Lido Beach, and South Lido Beach until further notice. There's no warning against playing on the sand, but you are advised not to get into the water. Enterococci bacteria can cause infections or illness, and it is not advised to eat raw shellfish or fish from those waters (cooked fish/shellfish is fine).
