Gov. DeSantis eliminates Common Core in Florida

This is a big deal!

The new governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, has signed an executive order eliminating Common Core in Florida.

"One of the things we would constantly hear about on the campaign trail is frustration from parents with Common Core and the testing," said Gov. DeSantis at a news conference at Ida S. Baker High School in Cape Coral.

The Governor said he wants to streamline standardized testing, make civics a priority in schools, and increase the rate of literacy.

"When you complained about Common Core, I hear you. I told you I would do something about, and today we're acting to bring those promises into reality," said Gov. DeSantis.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, especially if you have kids who've been taught learning Common Core, or were a student who was taught using this method.

I don't have kids, but I've seen the work that many of my friends' kids have been doing, and it seems to make very little sense, especially when it comes to math. I've heard many teachers say that teaching to a particular test actually hinders their ability to instruct students, so my initial reaction is to feel that this is a great move. If you have another perspective, I'd love to hear it.

This comes after DeSantis announced an initiative encouraging Florida students to learn skilled trades .
