Donating to your local food bank is always a good idea, but before you go digging in your pantry for some canned goods, know what would help most. What soup kitchens and food pantries need most isn’t more groceries, it’s money.
While your boxes of non-perishables are appreciated, according to Feeding America, a nationwide network of food banks, they can stretch each donated dollar to cover 10 meals. And they can use your cash to buy fresh produce, baby food, or nutritional shakes for seniors, or anything else that’s needed most in the community they serve.
Of course, food drives are still helpful and those donations will go to good use. But if you really want to help the food banks out, click “donate” on their website.
Happy holidays, and thanks for giving!
