Hunter Bitten By Alligator In Florida Wildlife Area

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has given more details about a hunter who was bitten by an alligator in Martin County over the weekend.

46-year old James Boyce suffered from non-life threatening injuries.

He was hunting for hog with his wife in the Corbett Wildlife Area, which runs through portions of western Palm Beach and Martin Counties.

The attack happened north of Loxahatchee on Saturday when the alligator chomped on his right leg.

An FWC spokesperson says serious injuries caused by gators are rare in Florida. The agency says alligators are a conservation success story, helping keep aquatic animal populations in balance and keep water holes open for other fish and wildlife.
