911 Calls Released from Tampa Bus Driver Stabbing

TAMPA -- Tampa police have released the 9-1-1 call from Saturday's deadly stabbing of a transit bus driver.

35 year old Justin McGriff is charged with murder in the death of 46 year old Thomas Dunn on Nebraska Avenue in north Tampa. Police say he stabbed Dunn in the neck and severed his carotid and jugular arteries. The bus driver's last act was to steer his bus safely to the curb. Dunn died at the scene.

Screaming can be heard in the background as the caller describes the scene to a call taker. "A guy just stabbed the bus driver in the neck... the (driver) is actually dead..."

Police say McGriff left the scene. They caught up with him and say he resisted arrest and was arrested following a foot chase.

The arrest report says McGriff told Dunn "God bless you" twice before stabbing him.

Dunn had complained about bus safety at a meeting of the (Hillsborough) Transit Authority last December.

There's also video but police don't plan to release it.
