TAMPA -- Two Florida universities are joining a prominent association of research institutions.
The Association of American Universities announces that the University of South Florida in Tampa, and the University of Miami are among six schools invited to join the AAU. The other four are Arizona Stste, George Washington, California-Riverside and Notre Dame.
AAU considers research activity, quality of programs and faculty, and graduation rates among other factors.
Before today's announcement only 71 schools were members of the AAU, which is invitation-only.
