Sheriff: Pinellas Park Police "Textbook" in Officer-Involved Shooting

PINELLAS PARK -- The head of a task force investigating the officer-involved shooting that left a man dead in Pinellas Park, says the officers' conduct went by the book.

Pinellas Sheriff Bob Gualtieri says 36-year-old Jared Rudderham had sent threatening texts to his ex-girlfriend before showing up and tapping on her window early Tuesday morning, including a threat to "kill everyone." His ex told deputies he wouldn't answer when she asked him whether he had a gun.

Gualtieri says bodycam video shows Rudderham pulling out a Glock semi-automatic and racking it before turning to face officers.

Rudderham had a lengthy record and a history of mental illness.

The investigation remains active.
