Florida Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist made a campaign stop in West Palm Beach on Thursday.

Crist, a Democrat and Florida's one-time Republican governor, is on his "Voting Rights" tour.

He hosted a roundtable with Florida Senator Tina Polksy in attendance, along with local activists, opening up with a prayer for the dead in a double murder-suicide at a Palm Beach County Publix.

The Palm Beach Post reports that Crist then called out Florida's new election law as a "horrific" Republican assault on voting rights.

It was the first visit to the area by either of the big-name candidates running for the Democrat nomination in next year's race for governor.

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried announced her candidacy last week.
