'Star Trek' Actress Dead At 52

Stephanie Niznik has died at the age of 52.

The actress, who appeared in Star Trek: Insurrection, "died unexpectedly" in Encino, California on June 23, Variety reported on Friday (July 12).

No cause of death has been given at this time.

Stephanie, a native of Bangor, Maine, is perhaps best known for her role as Nina Feeney in The WB drama series Everwood, which ran from 2002 to 2006. She also appeared in Life is Wild, Grey's Anatomy, Lost, NCIS, and CSI: Miami.

In 1998 the Duke University graduate landed the role of Trill Starfleet Ensign Kell Perim in Star Trek: Insurrection. Stephanie returned to the Star Trek world in 2002 to play the Wraith in the "Rogue Planet" episode of the series Star Trek: Enterprise.

According to Variety, the 52-year-old actress was active in volunteering for hunger, children and animal rescue organizations, and also worked with Four Winds Heart-Centered Healing.

She is survived by her mother and stepfather; brother and sister-law; her niece and nephews; aunt and uncle; and her beloved dogs Nucleus and Jake, the entertainment news site reported.
