Ophelia Expected To Be A Hurricane By Wednesday


Miami, Fla. (970 WFLA)- At 500 AM, the center of Tropical Storm Ophelia was located near latitude 31.9 North, longitude 38.8 West, about  790 miles west-southwest of the Azores.

Ophelia is moving toward the southeast near 3 mph, and this general motion is expected to continue during the next day or two.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph  with higher gusts.  Gradual strengthening is forecast, and Ophelia is expected to become a hurricane by Wednesday.  Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1002 mb (29.59 inches).
