The Tampa City Council is meeting on this today.
Right now: residents are allowed to have five chickens for every 5,000 square feet. The chickens must also be kept 200 feet from neighbors.
In December, Pinellas County commissioners approved backyard chickens for unincorporated areas in county. Residents with single-family lots can keep up to four birds on their land.
Chicken coops there are allowed within 10 feet of the property line. The rules allow egg harvesting, but ban slaughtering chickens for their meat on the property.
The meeting begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Old City Hall in downtown Tampa.
