LAKELAND, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Lakeland Police say two of the cats found mutilated recently were killed by a predatory animal.

Police released the update Monday after the results came back from a University of Florida Veterinary Forensic Pathologist who examined the two carcasses. Police say it’s unknown what type of animal was responsible for the cats’ deaths. DNA samples were taken to identify the predatory animal and the results will be back in three to four weeks, police said.

Police said in late April several mutilated cats were reported along Newport Avenue, Easton Drive, and Brook Lane in Lakeland.
