SARASOTA, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Sarasota Police say a two-year-old child is alive thanks to the quick-thinking of two of their officers.
Police officials say the two officers were on patrol on 21st Street in Sarasota noticed several women holding a baby upside down.
When officers made contact with the women, officials say they said the baby was choking on a chicken bone. That’s when police say one officer rushed to radio to dispatch while the other performed the infant Heimlich to dislodge the bone.
Police say the child started breathing on scene and was taken to the hospital and rushed to surgery.
Police officials say they have learned the baby is expected to make a full recovery.
